Pictures and Pumpkins, Monsters and Mario Brothers--October 2013

October is such a strange month for weather.  Although really that could be said for most months around here!  But October always seems to be the most dramatic for temperature changes.
These first few pictures were taken at the beginning of the month.  Clearly, it was still pretty warm outside since the kids went to church in shorts and Reagan’s dress has no sleeves!

I can’t really remember why we had the bale of hay.  Maybe Jim used it to cover up some grass seed.  I know he planted new grass after construction on the patio was completed.
Anyway, the clothing choices have changed dramatically by the end of the month when we went to the pumpkin patch.  We were all in long sleeves, but I remember still being cold and wishing I had a jacket!

These next few shots were Reagan’s idea!

We had fun taking pictures at the pumpkin patch, despite the chilly temps, but the patch itself was a little lacking this year.  We’ve been getting our Halloween pumpkins from the same place since before the kids were born, and they’ve always had a great selection, but this year it was kind of pitiful.  My guess is the incredibly wet summer.  It must have messed with the pumpkin harvest.
Oh, well, now we are ready for Halloween!

Reagan was Frankie Stein from Monster High.  She loved this costume, although the wig didn’t last long.  She pretty much just wore it for the pictures.

The boys were Mario, Luigi, and Wario.

They liked their costumes too, mostly.  Zachary wouldn’t wear his moustache at all, not even for a picture.  And Thomas didn’t like the fat belly that went under his costume.

We were so happy to continue our tradition of trick-or-treating with little witch Kennedy and Ghostbuster Carter.

At least until the pictures got photo-bombed!
We trick-or-treated just around our neighborhood.  We had planned to venture to another nearby neighborhood, but didn’t because of the impending rain, but it was still a good time filled with lots of candy!  And no one froze to death!

May the Force Be With You

Wow, I’m really ashamed to discover I never posted about Halloween.  I really should have.  Apparently, the Force was not with me!
Here we are picking pumpkins at the pumpkin patch:

Ready for Trick-or-Treating!
Jonathan was originally Master Yoda, but had to switch to Obi-Wan when we couldn’t find his mask.  I don’t think he minded much.  The masks were kind of annoying, and the other boys didn’t keep theirs on very long!
How much longer am I going to be able to convinve the kids to wear coordinated costumes?  This may have been the end.  Alas.

Cousins, Take Two

The day after Jonathan got his stitches, Jojo and Co. arrived. This group included Aunt Jojo, Cousins Kinley and Kallen, and Bud and KayKay. It was a big group!

We returned to the Fruit and Berry Patch, and Kinley and Kallen got to enjoy their first corn maze!

After the corn maze, we went to the pumpkin patch, but the lure of pumpkins was nothing compared to the lure of animals. The sheep were out in the pen opposite the patch, and the kids had a BLAST feeding them spilled corn from the ground. Thanks KayKay for picking up so much corn for all the kiddos!

Since the pumpkin patch did not provide exactly the pumpkins we were looking for, we stopped at the other pumpkin patch on the way home. (It did, however, provide some really delicious apples!)

The next day we went to the East TN Discovery Center. We had never been there before, but had some free passes, so we decided to check it out. It wasn’t quite as fancy as I expected from looking at their website, but the kids had fun! There were lots of science experiments, all very hands-on.

There was even a planetarium there! Unfortunately, the presentation was a bit over the heads of our crew.

Is it love or a need for extra body heat? Could easily have been both! It was FREEZING in the planetarium!

Then we went out for ICE CREAM!!!!! Yum!

Another quick and busy visit, but so much fun! Thanks for coming you guys! We love you!

Next post? BIG NEWS!

Cousins, Take One

The weekend after the backyard camping trip, Uncle Clay and Co. came to visit. It was a BUSY weekend, but we had so much fun!

Saturday night we all went to the Kerbela Shrine Circus. It was JonZReaTom’s first circus! They loved it! And so did their Cousin Tyler! (Cousin Avery was another matter entirely. Poor thing, she was SO tired!)

Sunday afternoon we hit a couple of pumpkin patches. First we went to The Fruit and Berry Patch, a JonZReaTom tradition. It felt a little weird to be there without Michelle, David, and Abby, but it was pretty nice to get to go with Daddy!

Reagan is REALLY excited to be there!

The corn maze is always my favorite part. David was always leader before, but this time the kids took turns choosing which paths to take through the maze…that is until the adults got tired of walking around in circles, and then Uncle Clay led!

We lucked out when we came out of the maze and were able to hitch a ride on the tractor.

Unfortunately, the actual pumpkin patch was kind of sad this year. So on our way home we stopped at the “pumpkin patch” at the Methodist Church across the street from our neighborhood.

DSC_0610Reagan LOVED this bumpy pumpkin!

WHY??

And we still found time to just play, play, play in the backyard!

It was a packed weekend, but we loved every minute of it! Love you guys!
