Pictures and Pumpkins, Monsters and Mario Brothers--October 2013

October is such a strange month for weather.  Although really that could be said for most months around here!  But October always seems to be the most dramatic for temperature changes.
These first few pictures were taken at the beginning of the month.  Clearly, it was still pretty warm outside since the kids went to church in shorts and Reagan’s dress has no sleeves!

I can’t really remember why we had the bale of hay.  Maybe Jim used it to cover up some grass seed.  I know he planted new grass after construction on the patio was completed.
Anyway, the clothing choices have changed dramatically by the end of the month when we went to the pumpkin patch.  We were all in long sleeves, but I remember still being cold and wishing I had a jacket!

These next few shots were Reagan’s idea!

We had fun taking pictures at the pumpkin patch, despite the chilly temps, but the patch itself was a little lacking this year.  We’ve been getting our Halloween pumpkins from the same place since before the kids were born, and they’ve always had a great selection, but this year it was kind of pitiful.  My guess is the incredibly wet summer.  It must have messed with the pumpkin harvest.
Oh, well, now we are ready for Halloween!

Reagan was Frankie Stein from Monster High.  She loved this costume, although the wig didn’t last long.  She pretty much just wore it for the pictures.

The boys were Mario, Luigi, and Wario.

They liked their costumes too, mostly.  Zachary wouldn’t wear his moustache at all, not even for a picture.  And Thomas didn’t like the fat belly that went under his costume.

We were so happy to continue our tradition of trick-or-treating with little witch Kennedy and Ghostbuster Carter.

At least until the pictures got photo-bombed!
We trick-or-treated just around our neighborhood.  We had planned to venture to another nearby neighborhood, but didn’t because of the impending rain, but it was still a good time filled with lots of candy!  And no one froze to death!

Halloween 2012

This was a sad, sad Halloween for me.

For the first time since the kids were born, their costumes did not all match.  Alas.

We were close!  If we could have found a Black Widow outfit to fit Reagan, they would have all been Avengers!

But it was not to be.  And then Reagan fell in love with a Cinderella dress.  Sigh.

Oh, well.  They were still cute!

Hawkeye (Not a very exciting costume, but what 7yo boy doesn’t want a bow and arrow set?)

We continued our Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating with Carter and Kennedy!  Happily, this created two coordinated sets!

Ready for Trick-or-Treating!
Jonathan was originally Master Yoda, but had to switch to Obi-Wan when we couldn’t find his mask.  I don’t think he minded much.  The masks were kind of annoying, and the other boys didn’t keep theirs on very long!
How much longer am I going to be able to convinve the kids to wear coordinated costumes?  This may have been the end.  Alas.

Halloween for All and All for Halloween!

DSC_1017

When the fair Princess Reagan finds herself in peril, who can she call on for help? Who will always come to her aid, no matter the danger to themselves? Who are those brave young men, so gallant, so handsome, so adorably costumed?

It can only be…

A Declaration from the King

DSC_0352

Hear ye! Hear ye! By order of His Royal Highness, King Thomas the Wild, that it doth serve his supreme pleasure, all subjects of the quad-dom are hereby instructed to read and enjoy the following tales and illustrations. Due to his unending generosity, King Thomas hath provided these words for the benefit of all subjects, rich and poor alike, that through his wisdom, thine own lives shall be uplifted.

Providence hath seen fit of late to plague our glorious quad-dom with the evils of a most fearsome and vicious dragon. This very dragon hath ravaged the countryside for many a fortnight and didst take refuge in the mountains ere it could be slain. There the loathsome creature hideth, spreading fear throughout the realm

DSC_0330

Fear of the dragon didst spread even to the very palace of the king, casting a shadow over the pure loveliness of Our Gracious Lady Reagan.

DSC_0312

Good King Thomas therefore didst assemble all his mighty knights, that he might send them out to conquer the irksome beast and free his people of this terror. All the knights trembled at the task, save one. Sir Jonathan the Brave didst feel no fear of the dragon. He set forth on his perilous journey to slay the beast.

DSC_0312

Sir Jonathan’s quest was long and full of danger, yet never did he turn back in fear. He pressed on with the utmost courage, til he didst discover the dragon’s lair. Such a battle then ensued that wouldst cause thy hairs to turn white upon thy head didst thou hear its details. In the end, victory was won by Brave Sir Jonathan of the Family Harris of the House of Jim, and he didst incredibly tame the dragon and bring it home to suit the pleasure of the king.

DSC_0323

With joy didst the royal family welcome home their brave knight, and all the people of the quad-dom didst rejoice over the taming of the dragon.

DSC_0344

Therefore, in his infinite goodness, King Thomas wisheth thee a most Happy and Dragon-free Halloween!
